« Hey what happened to the ties?! Before the ties rotted out completely, the SCIH crews removed a portion of the ties scheduled to be replaced this spring.

« Using our custom built tie nipper car, our track crew volunteers were able to load and transport forty ties, slide them under the rails and get them spiked to the rails. Only 52 more ties to go! Of course ballasting, surfacing and lining and tamping need to be completed before the project is completed."

« And here’s an example of just what the ties look like after they were puled out. Thanks to the donors of our track and wire fund, we are able to purchase the materials to replace rotted ties like these to keep our trolley line in service.

« The Track is Finished! Museum volunteers put in some long hours finishing the spiking, spreading the ballast then setting up and tamping the track in order to have it completed for Members Day in mid May and the school trips later in the month. Still to be done is picking up the old rotted ties and spreading a bit more ballast to completely finish the job.
